One of the Best Hikes in Utah
If you love to hike Salt Lake City Utah has one of the best hiking terrains around. There is hiking for all ages and skill levels.
One of the more popular, moderate/difficult hikes that is easily accessible from the Salt Lake Valley is the hike to Lake Blanche. The Lake Blanche trailhead is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and the hike is approximately 6.5 miles out and back. The trail is well marked, and can be strenuous at times with significant elevation gains, but it is very easy to follow. The trail is accessible year round, and typically sees the most activity between late May and October. In the winter months be sure you are prepared for cold weather, and to hike in the snow. As you head up the trail make sure you take frequent glances behind you because as you rise in elevation the view of the canyon below is amazing.
Once you reach the top there are actually three lakes you can hike around and explore. Lake Blanche is the largest, with Lake Florence and Lake Lillian nearby. All three lakes are accessible by trails so they are easy to get around, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy a snack or a bite for lunch. The views of the surrounding Wasatch Mountains are beautiful, and you can easily spend a couple of hours at the top enjoying the natural surroundings.
Be sure to take to plenty of water on the hike, maybe some bug spray, and plan on it taking most of your day to complete.
